Junior Developmental Programs

SJTA is committed to providing your child with the highest quality tennis instruction available. Beginning with our Parent & Tot class and moving through Le Petit and on to Tennis Canada’s progressive tennis program (Red – Orange – Green – Yellow Ball), our trained and enthusiastic coaches deliver Tennis Canada designed programming. These programs have been crafted to match your child’s development with skill-appropriate equipment and curriculum.

These programs follow the Tennis Canada curriculum, which adheres to the Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) model.

Parent & Tot
This fun and interactive program is for parents with young children aged 1.5 to 3. It offers a playful way to explore movement and build essential physical skills. With activities like obstacle courses, throwing and catching games, and fun props, toddlers develop coordination and balance in a lively and supportive setting. It is all about creating joyful early movement experiences and laying the foundation for future sports skills.

Le Petit
This program is for kids aged 3 to 4.5 who are new to tennis or have graduated from the Parent and Tot program. Le Petit focuses on developing early tennis skills like balance, centering, and hitting actions. As players progress, modified equipment is introduced to apply these skills in a tennis-specific way. Through fun, age-appropriate activities, kids build confidence and coordination and begin exploring the basics of tennis in an encouraging environment.

Red Ball

This program is the perfect introduction to tennis for kids aged 4-7 who are new to tennis or have graduated from the Le Petit program. Players learn the foundation of tennis with age-appropriate equipment, including oversized low-compression red balls, modified racquets, and smaller courts. This approach makes it easier for young players to learn basic rally, serve and net play skills. Lessons also focus on teamwork and sportsmanship, helping kids build confidence, make friends, and enjoy the game.

Orange Ball
This program is the perfect introduction to tennis for kids aged 7-10 who are new to tennis or have graduated from Red Ball. Using age-appropriate equipment, including low-compression orange balls and ¾ size courts and modified racquets, makes it easier for young players to learn how to serve, rally, score, and play at the net. Lessons also focus on teamwork and sportsmanship, helping kids build confidence, make friends, and enjoy the game.

Green Ball
This program is designed for kids aged 10 -12 who are new to tennis or have graduated from Orange Ball. Players learn to serve, rally, score, and play at the net in singles and doubles on a regulation-sized court with low compression green balls. Through fun and engaging drills, players will improve their shot direction, control, and power while learning to approach the net with confidence. Lessons also focus on teamwork and sportsmanship, helping players build confidence, make friends, and enjoy the game.

Yellow Ball

This program is designed for junior players aged 12-18 who are new to tennis or have graduated from Green Ball. The program uses a full-sized tennis court and regular tennis balls. Players learn to rally with improved direction and height control, serve with better power and control, return serves, and approach and play net with volleys and overheads. Lessons also focus on teamwork and sportsmanship, helping players build confidence, make friends, and enjoy the game.
