Steve Mahar is a Tennis Canada Certified Coach 3 and Club Professional 3, recipient of the 2023 National Coaching Excellence award, and a current candidate for Canadian Sport Institute’s Advanced Coaching Diploma.
Steve began his coaching journey at the Mount Pearl Tennis Club in 2002 and has since advanced to several leadership and performance coaching positions in Fredericton, Toronto and most recently as the Director of Tennis and Player Development for Tennis Nova Scotia in Halifax.
During his career Steve has had the opportunity to work with many of Canada’s best international and professional coaches, and has developed multiple top nationally ranked players, including a #1 Girl, and International Champions.

Originally from Gander, NL David has been coaching with the SJTA since coming to St. John’s in 2017. Initially coaching all ages he has since transitioned into a full-time physiotherapist therefore working mostly just evenings teaching the adult clinics and cardio tennis. Over the last few years David has completed his Club Pro 1 certification as well as multiple other sporting certifications through the NCCP.

Besides tennis, David is also a certified Pickleball coach and advocate for multiple pickleball brands.

David is available for both private lessons in both tennis and pickleball.

Parisa is a certified Tennis Canada Club Pro 1, ITF Level 1 coach, and a member of the Tennis Professionals Association and ITF Academy.

Originally from Iran, she began her athletic career as a high-ranking junior tennis and table tennis player, competing in regional and national tournaments.

With a passion for coaching, Parisa enjoys working with players of all ages and skill levels. Throughout her coaching career, she has worked with a wide range of athletes, from young tournament participants to nationally ranked junior tennis players.

Parisa’s coaching philosophy is rooted in a person-centred approach, as she believes tennis is more than just a sport, it’s a life skill that teaches discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship. She emphasizes the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with her players and guiding them on their tennis journey, both on and off the court.

Declan is a Tennis Canada certified Instructor Level coach, and has been coaching in various capacities since 2021.

He is an accomplished player, having competed at the provincial, Atlantic, and national levels.

Declan has experience coaching both group and private lessons for all age ranges and skill levels. He is also the founder and the Tournament Director of the Jack Hurley Memorial Cup, and serves on the 2025 Canada Games Youth Advisory Board.

In his spare time, Declan enjoys travelling, playing volleyball, and is always keen to talk about anything tennis!

Kai began his tennis journey in Ontario at the age of 8. Upon moving to Newfoundland as a teen, he began to play tennis year-round and developed a deep passion for the sport. This passion led him to represent Newfoundland at the 2017 Canada Games. At university, he continued to play competitively. This included an Atlantic Championship and Nationals Appearance in 2019 while playing for Memorial University.

In addition to playing tennis competitively, Kai began a gradual transition to coaching at the age of 15. Having amassed over 10 years of coaching experience, in addition to being a Tennis Professionals Association (TPA) certified instructor, Kai coaches a variety of ages and abilities. He strives to foster a positive environment in which students can develop their skills and abilities.

In addition to coaching and playing tennis, Kai has become an avid fan -and TPA-certified instructor of pickleball. When he is not on the tennis or pickleball court, Kai enjoys going for hikes and cooking.

Alistair Bath recently became a Tennis Canada Certified Instructor in 2024. He is a familiar face to the St. John’s Tennis Association, often playing a couple times each day several times each week. He also has had the pleasure of working with the western, central and St. John’s Newfoundland games teams. Alistair played competitive tennis in Ontario as a junior and continues playing competitively today in open tournaments within the province. Alistair also plays International Tennis Federation (ITF) Master’s Tour (MT) events making it to the finals in an ITF MT 200 event in Belgium in 2023, quarter finals in an ITF MT400 event In Tel Aviv, and more recently the quarterfinals in an ITF MT 200 event in Calgary in 2024. A retired MUN professor, Alistair loves the opportunity to continue teaching through tennis instruction to children and adults for all skill levels.
